Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards: Retailer of the Year Finalists

Four retailers with different customer propositions have emerged as finalists in this year’s Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards.

Electric Kiwi followed last year’s win in this category with a year of strong customer growth. The Auckland-based company, which served almost 42,000 customers as June closed, also performed well in a number of areas of Consumer NZ’s annual energy provider survey.

Meridian registered a notable improvement in its customer satisfaction result, which the panel noted was particularly difficult for a mass market retailer. Consumer NZ also recognised Meridian’s move to stop offering prompt payment discounts, at a financial cost to the firm.

Todd Corporation-owned past winner Nova was a big improver in this year’s Consumer NZ survey, performing particularly well on customer support. A review of its customer contracts underlined a fair and open approach to consumers.

Powershop, a Meridian subsidiary that topped the category in 2012, stood out for its outstanding survey results, and legal experts rated the company’s contract as the best on show for its clarity and plain language.
