Manage your emissions - A call to action for all New Zealand leaders

It is time to act!

All New Zealand organisations whether in the private or public sector need to understand the impacts of New Zealand transitioning to a lower carbon economy.  This transition has a material impact on future success.  Key stakeholders are very interested to know an organisation’s exposure and want to be comfortable with how well emissions are being managed.  This includes your board members, debt providers, equity investors, insurers, shareholders, suppliers, customers and staff.

Recently over sixty CEOs in a Climate Leaders’ Coalition committed to measuring and reporting their greenhouse gas emissions and working with suppliers to reduce emissions, to help keep global warming within two degrees, as specified in the Paris Agreement.  This demonstrates that the imperative to have an emissions reduction plan has gone way up on the priority list of boards and senior managers.  All organisations will also be aware of the current government’s intentions in this space with the soon to be introduced Zero Carbon Bill, the establishment of a Climate Change Commission and target of New Zealand achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The new event provides an intensive one-day forum for leaders to learn about how the drive to lower emissions will affect their organisation.  This commercially focused event will bring together all those responsible for setting a strategy for their organisation and those intimately involved in developing and implementing an emissions reduction plan.  Delegates will hear international and local speakers share real-world solutions and gain practical guidance on developing a plan and setting a course for their organisation.

Speakers include senior leaders from Foodstuffs, NZ Post, Institute of Directors, The Warehouse, Ngāi Tahu, 3R Group, Ministry for Environment and Melbourne City Council.

The event runs on Wednesday 5 December at the InterContinental Wellington.  Full details can be found on the event website www.emissionsworkshop.co.nz

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority is a Foundation Partner of the Emissions Workshop.  This event will be carbon neutral with all event related emissions, including those associated with delegate travel, being offset.
